Obituary for Virgil Page


Virgil Page, 85, of Pecatonica passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at home, after a long and fearless battle with Alzheimer’s, surrounded by his family and friends.
Virgil was born on Sept. 7, 1926, in Ollie, Ky., to Samuel L. and Russie (Kersey) Page. Virgil married Florence Remmers in Ollie, Ky., on Sept. 26, 1950. Florence went home on June 25, 2010.
Virgil worked as a methods engineer for Twin Disc Clutch in Rockford for 32 years. Virgil and Florence loved to dance and travel together. He enjoyed farming and taking care of his animals. His Greatest Love was his family.
He is survived by children, Tommy (Laura) Page of Pecatonica, Ruth Page of Joelton, Tenn., JoAnn (Gordy) Greenberg of Pecatonica, and John Page of Pecatonica; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. His Special Angels were Lily Criswell, Amanda Harrison, and Laura Muench. Extreme gratitude to Heather Wimsatt and Kathy Nord with VNA Hospice.
He was predeceased by his wife, Florence; daughter, Patricia; parents; three sisters; and four brothers.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, April 16, at the Kenneth L. Countryman Funeral Home in Pecatonica.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 17, at the Pecatonica United Methodist Church in Pecatonica, with Pastor Amy Poust officiating. A luncheon will be held directly after the service, followed by the committal service at Oakland Cemetery Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made for the family.
