Obituary for John David Jones


John David Jones, AKA “Davey Jones” to his close family, passed away on April 12, 2012, at the age of 83.
He was born on July 8, 1928, in Grays Lake.
He moved to Oakland, Calif., with his family in the early 1940s, where he worked at the Moore’s shipyards as a welder. He worked in the Forestry Service at Yosemite and Yellowstone National Parks in the mid to late 1940s. He also worked as a farm hand in LeRoy, Minn., Riceville, and Charles City, Iowa, welding corncribs.
He moved to Janesville, Wis., in the early 1950s, and worked at General Motors from 1954 to 1993. When he retired, he moved to Freeport, where he made his home with Marion Moore for more than 30 years.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Janesville Wis., and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Freeport.
He married the former Mary Jane Rucker of Delavan, Wis., in 1957. They had three children: Denise (Dan) Maney of Madison, Wis., Thomas C. (Laurie) Jones of Tempe, Ariz., and Sara Jones of Janesville, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Burnerd Clark Jones and Elizabeth June (Reiniger) Jones of Milton, Wis.; his sister, Marilyn B. Crandall of Jacksonville, Fla.; brother-in-law, Charles Seese; brother-in-law, Willam Crandall; and his grandson, David Joseph Jones of Janesville, Wis.
He is survived by his brother, Donald Scott (Judith) Jones; his sister, Claricy Seese; his former wife; three children; three grandsons; two great-grandsons; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services and burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 26, at the Chapel of Peace at the Oakland Cemetery & Mausoleum, 2619 W. Pearl City Road in Freeport.
