Vera M. Johnson, 92, of Morton, formerly of Freeport, died at 1:30 a.m. Saturday, May 19, 2012, at Washington Christian Village.

She was born April 4, 1920, in Orson, Iowa, to John and Laura (Ashton) Vanman. She married John W. Johnson. He preceded her in death on Dec. 25, 1998. She also was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Surviving are two sons, Larry (Mary) Johnson of Rock City, and Victor Johnson of Morton; two daughters, Judy (Jerry) Gale of Freeport, and Linda (Duane) Benfer of Winslow; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Vera was a member of Morton United Methodist Church.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 24, 2012, at Oakland Cemetery in Freeport, Ill., with Rev. Gene McIntosh officiating. There will be no visitation.

There will be a lunch and fellowship gathering following the graveside service at the Cedarville Baptist Church, 444 W. Cedarville Road, Cedarville, IL 61013.

Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton is handling arrangements.
