Obituary for Mable Kathryn James (Scofield)


Mabel Kathryn James, 90, of Freeport, died Friday, December 28, 2012 in her home. Mabel was born on October 31, 1922 in Freeport, the daughter of Ira and Clara (Merrill) Scofield. Mabel married John S.”Jack” James Sr. on March 23, 1941 in Freeport at First Baptist Church. Mr. James died on February 25, 2003. Mabel was a 1940 graduate of Freeport High School. She worked at Micro Switch and for the Stephenson County Home Extension. She was a member of the Red Hat Happy Hatters, Ladies of Elks and T.O.P. S. Mable enjoyed working on her High School Reunion Committee. Mrs. James enjoyed swimming, she swam over 1700 miles at the Y.W.C.A.
Survivors include her son, John “Jack” (Jananne Schiesser) James Jr. of Freeport; and her daughter, Kathryn (Rex) Sides; of Freeport. Two grandchildren, Dr. Jeffrey (Dr. Michel Ann Fraser) James; of Freeport and Jodie (Kurt) Klinger of Evansville, Ind. Three great-grandchildren, Evan J. James, Hannah James and Megan Klinger.
Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister, Marilyn Keller.
Funeral services for Mrs. James will be 2:00 p.m. Monday December 31, 2012 at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home. Rev. John Hollis will officiate. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.
