Obituary for Sylvia Ann Krehl (Clark)

SYLVIA ANN KREHL, 75 FREEPORT - Sylvia Ann Krehl, 75, of Freeport, died December 11, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 6, 1938, in Durand, IL, the daughter of Raymond and Pearl (Goeke) Clark. She was raised on a farm in what is now Lake Summerset. She married Walter O. Krehl on June 18, 1960, in Davis, IL, at St. Paul's at Epleyanna Church. Wally died February 26, 2013. Surviving Sylvia are two daughters, Cindy (Mike) Frisch of Milwaukee, WI, and Sheri (Will Tackett) Wescott of Freeport, IL; one son, George (Shareon) Krehl, of Brooklyn, NY; her brother, Clifford Clark, of Brodhead, WI, and sister-in-law Linda Clark; seven grandchildren: William, Jordan, Kristen, and Samuel Frisch, Lauren and Colin Wescott, and Nicholas Krehl; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and her brother, Dale. Sylvia graduated from Durand High School in 1956. After high school, she came to Freeport and worked at Micro Switch. Mom told the story of living at Mrs. Gillespie's with 9 other girls, each paying $4 a week. Mom left Micro Switch after the birth of her first child. She went back to Micro Switch in the early 1970's, eventually retiring in 1997. Sylvia was a member of Embury U.M.C. and the Eagles Club, where she enjoyed volunteering. Sylvia enjoyed dancing: waltzes, polkas, shotty's, and the circle two-step. Sylvia was the kindest, caring, most unselfish person you could come across. Her family was everything to her, especially her grandchildren. She always enjoyed her monthly lunches with her high school classmates. Thank you to Sarah Clark, Connie Ilgen, Maggie Johnson, Barb Smith, Melanie Smith, Jack Walsh, Becky Best, Patti Rohde, Jan Wescott and staff at Monroe Clinic. Special thank you to Dr. Gaines Richardson, Jodie Elmer, Cindy Klein, Jean Garde, Sherri Burton, Jodi Engerman, Bobby Lee-Broge, and the entire Monroe Hospice Team. Extra special thank you, and eternally grateful, to my sister Sheri, Will, Lauren and Colin for opening up their home to Mom after Dad's death. Your love, support and comfort to Mom during her journey home has known no boundaries. Thanks to my husband, Mike, and my children, for giving me the time I needed to spend with Mom during these last months. No matter how Mom was feeling, she would say each morning "I make every day a good day." Rest in peace Mom and give Dad a hug. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport with Rev. William Blomberg officiating. Visitation will be held from 9a.m. until the time of service at Burke-Tubbs. Burial will take place at Oakland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her memory.
