Obituary for Giustino "Gus" Mantua

GIUSTINO 'GUS' MANTUA, 82 FREEPORT - Giustino "Gus" Mantua, 82, of Freeport, died Thursday October 16, 2014 at Manor Court of Liberty Village. Mr. Mantua was born August 15, 1932 in Castro Dei Volsci, Italy, the son of Angelo and Chiara (Mattone) Mantua. On September 21, 1958, Giustino married Francesca Gallone in Madonna del Piano, Italy. Giustino worked at Modern Plating before retiring in 1996 after 28 years. Prior to Coming To America in 1968, he worked construction in Rome, Italy on a lot of the main tourist attractions that people visit today. He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Surviving are his wife, Francesca (Gallone) Mantua; son, Gino (Lori) Mantua of Freeport; brothers, Antonio Mantua of Italy and Virginio Mantua of Argentina; sisters, Pasqualina Fontaini of Italy; grandchildren, Angela (Matt) Handel, Matthew Mantua, Amber Mantua, Taylor Strohecker and Matthew Strohecker; great-grandchildren, Analisa Handel Aiden Mantua (Poppa's Best Bud), Carmen Strohecker and one more great-grandson on the way. Also surviving are his sister-in-law, Cordelia Mantua; nephew, Mark (Leslie) Mantua; niece Elizabeth (Keith) Talbot great-nephew, Anthony Mantua, great-nieces Claire and Grace Talbot and many many more family in Italy, Argentina, and Canada. Giustino was preceded in death by his parents, son, Romano P. Mantua; daughter-in-law, Lynn Mantua; brothers, Andrew, Domenico, Filippo, Giuseppe and Rocco; and one sister, Giovannina. Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday October 22, 2014 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. The Rev. Kenneth Anderson will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday 5 to 8 p.m. at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home with a Rosary service beginning at 5 p.m. There will also be a visitation Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the time of service at St. Thomas. Entombment will take place at Oakland Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Giustino's memory.
