Obituary for Virginia L. Ferguson (Meyers)

VIRGINIA 'GINNY' FERGUSON, 77 FREEPORT - Virginia 'Ginny' Ferguson, 77, of Freeport departed this life on March 17, 2015, at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport, after a long battle with lung and other internal problems. Born April 12, 1937, in Freeport, she was the daughter of LeRoy and Grace (Phillips) Meyers. She married Robert L. Ferguson on February 11, 1956, at St. Mary's Church in Freeport. She graduated from Freeport High School in 1956. Surviving is her husband, Robert of Freeport; 4 children, Victoria "Vikki" (Stanley) Lincoln, Zoe Ferguson, Frank (Jessica) Ferguson, and Angela Poage, all living in the area; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; her brother, Dewey Meyers of Forreston. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Nancy (David) Milroy, Roberta (Karl) Nave, Judith Meyers, and Richard (Kathleen) Meyers. While in high school she worked and trained at St. Francis Hospital. Ginny worked at Micro Switch 25 years. She enjoyed giving her grandchildren and whoever a hard time and they giving it back. She spent time helping out at school the that her children attended, Brownie troop for her daughters, and daycare for several children, in home while her children were not in school. Ginny enjoyed being around people, especially her 1956 classmates. She loved camping all over the country and learning about new subjects of nature, as well as different crafts. She loved the challenge of anything that was an interest to her. She enjoyed square dancing for 23 years, meeting people from all over the country, plus Germany and Canada. She Lived 6 months a year in Mesa, AZ for 16 years. She was a very crafty person, teaching craft classes in Arizona where she learned the craft of Paper Tole, which has been displayed in museums and Public Library in the Freeport area. Also made several quilts for family and friends if she wasn't busy mending whatever's. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2015, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Visitation will be Saturday 9:30 a.m. until time of service at the church. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery & Mausoleum. A memorial has been established for FHN Memorial Hospice.
