Obituary for Marie A. Riley (Wingert)

MARIE ANNETTE LAMPE RILEY FREEPORT - Marie Annette (Wingert) Lampe Riley died peacefully surrounded by her family on June 10, 2015. She is predeceased by her parents Burrell and Kathryn Wingert, brothers: Dale (Jean), Elwood and Thomas (Jane) Wingert. She is survived by her beloved husband of 25 years Richard Riley of Waunakee, WI, six children; Susan and Mark Lampe of Madison, WI, Elizabeth (Patrick) Madison of Binghamton, NY and across the pond three children; Jackie (Leslie) Card, Tony and Richard Riley all living in the United Kingdom, grandchildren; Bryce, Erin and Joseph Lampe, Jeremy, Jason, and Amii Card, James, Michael and Jessica Riley, great grandchildren Elayne Lampe and Jake and Donna Card, nieces, nephews, cousins, a special friend and travel companion Marge White of Tennessee and a very dear sister-in-law Margaret Wingert of Freeport, IL. Born September 19, 1934, Marie grew up a farm girl in Kent, IL. She graduated from Pearl City High School and Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing. After 17 years of working as an RN at St. Clare Hospital and the Monroe Nursing Home in Monroe, WI. Marie traveled to Saudi Arabia where she worked at King Abdul Aziz in Tabuk an King Khalid University hospital in Riyadh as an Obstetrics Nurse for another 10 years. She introduced many Bedouin families to the beauty of indoor plumbing and electricity as they arrived from their desert camps to give birth in a modern hospital. She rode camels in Petra, strolled gardens in Rome where she had a chance encounter with Pope John Paul and met the love of her life Richard at his surprise 50th birthday at Al Ramazon a British Aerospace facility. They married in Manama, Bahrain in 1990. After returning from the Middle East she continued working at health care facilities in Arizona, Florida and Arkansas for another 11 years. She worked tirelessly her entire life, nursing individuals to health, welcoming new life to the world and helping many die with dignity. Marie loved life, adored her family and friends embracing each day with unbridled enthusiasm. Her family wishes to express sincere thangs to the staff at the UW Neuro ICU for their tireless attention to Marie's every need in her final days. The nurses and doctors provided care that rivaled anything she could have dreamed. Join her family for a Memorial Service at St. Thomas Aquinas at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 23rd, in Freeport, IL.
