Obituary for Jean C. Wurtzel (Anderson)


JEAN CHARLOTTE WURTZEL FREEPORT - Jean Charlotte Wurtzel of Freeport, Illinois died Saturday, October 31, 2015, at FHN Memorial Hospital, after a sudden illness. Born March 3, 1924, in Freeport, Illinois; she was the daughter of Arthur E and Thelma M. (Waldecker) Anderson. She married Arthur C. Wurtzel March 25, 1943, in Freeport, Illinois; he died September 4, 2002. Jean worked at Borchers and Maves Insurance Real estate office and then at Union Savings Bank where she was an officer, and retired with the title of Assistant Secretary-Treasurer in 1983. She enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Europe with her husband during their retirement years. Jean was a member of St. John United Church of Christ and a former Cub Scout Den Mother. She also participated in LOF (Learning our Faith) Sunday school classes and along with her husband, Art, attended Marry Mates activities for many years. Jean was also a frustrated Cubs fan. Surviving are two sons, John (Jean Marie) Wurtzel of Pecatonica and Roger (Virginia) Wurtzel of Plover, Wisconsin; five grandchildren, Charlotte (Jeff) Johnson of Colorado, Springs, Colorado, Karoline (Ryan) Schwantes of Wausau, Wisconsin, Sherri Wurtzel of Baldwinsville, New York, Steven (Kelly)Wurtzel of O'Fallon, Missouri, Thomas (Tanya) Wurtzel of Pecatonica; six great-grandchildren, Eleanor and Peter Schwantes, Henry and Edward Johnson, and Emer-son and Hadley Wurtzel; her brothers, Arthur ""Andy"" Anderson of Newton, Iowa, Robert (Delores) Anderson of Freeport, and James (Pat) Anderson of Davenport, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sister-in-law, Barbara Anderson. Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Friday, November 6, 2015, at St. John United Church of Christ, 1010 South Park Blvd., Freeport, Illinois. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery & Mausoleum in Freeport, Illinois. Friends may call 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, November 5, 2015, at Walker Mortuary, 321 W. Main St., Freeport, Illinois, and from 2 to 3 p.m. Friday, November 6, 2015 at the church.
