Obituary for Margaret L. Mason (Ross)

Margaret L. Mason 1921—2016
Margaret L. Mason, 95, of Cedarville, died Monday, April 18, 2016, at Manor Court in Freeport. Born February 7, 1921, in Stephenson County; the daughter of Frank and Frieda (Bessert) Ross. She married Dr. Richard R. Mason November 19, 1950; he preceded her in death March 23, 2013. She attended Immanuel Lutheran School and graduated from Freeport High School in 1940. After graduation she worked at Burgess Battery and then was employed by Lueckes Jewelers until her marriage in 1950, to Dr. Richard R. Mason. They lived in Freeport until February 1957, when they moved to Cedarville. While raising their children, Margaret also supported her husband's veterinary practice in Cedarville. During her children's youth, Margaret was active in the Brownies, Lucky Stars 4-H club and Greenville 4- H Club. She loved her Arts and Craft hobbies which included ceramics and cross-stitch at which she was excellent. She gave numerous cross -stitch pictures as gifts to family, friends and acquaintances. She enjoyed her house plants and had quite a green thumb when it came to propagating them. Margaret was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Freeport. She is survived by her children, Sarah and husband, David Morgan of Herefordshire, England, Steven of Anchorage, Alaska, John and wife, Kathleen of Ridott, Illinois and Dr. William Mason and wife, Robin of Wausau, Wisconsin; sister, Pauline Forsythe; nieces and nephews; and step-grandson, Ryan Hiser and wife, Rachel of Freeport. She was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Ray Stanley Mason; brother, Lawrence Ross; and her husband, Richard.
A celebration of life will be 1 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2016, at the Cedarville Community Center in Cedarville, IL. There will be a light lunch served as part of the celebration. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service and interment of her cremated remains will be 1 p.m. Monday, May 2, 2016, in the Chapel of Peace at Oakland Cemetery, Freeport, IL. Pastor Gary Johnson of Our Savior Lutheran Church will be officiating. A memorial has been established. Please leave a message in Margaret's guestbook at www.walkermortuary.com
