Dorothy Fox 1923—2016
Dorothy Fox, 92, of Freeport died May 9, 2016, peacefully at Presence St. Joseph's Center after an extended illness. Born July 2, 1923, in Freeport; the daughter of Emma (Nation) Fox and John Oren Fox. Dorothy was a happy person, with a witty, chipper intelligent personality. She lived all her life in Freeport but escaped often with her mother, Emma to various parts of the country including: Disney Land, Disney World, Yellow Stone National Park, The Grand Canyon, Niagra Falls and other American vacation spots. She even took a trip by train through Canada. After graduating from Freeport High School in 1941, Dorothy worked three years at the Green River ordinance plant in Dixon, IL as part of the war effort. She also worked at Burgess Battery in Freeport for 23 ½ years and at Newell for 14 years. Dorothy practiced and put her faith into action showing her love for people and animals. She spent nights working at the homeless shelter and also gave of her time helping out at the humane society. Her dogs, Dejay and Little Te were part of her family and gave her much joy. Dorothy also was a Chicago Cubs and Bear fan. Attracted to the Catholic faith, Dorothy converted and was well received. She said it was the happiest day of her life. Blind and in a wheel chair she attended mass as her health permitted and received communion when she could not attend. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Emma and John Fox and her brother, Eugene Fox.
A funeral mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at Sacred Heart Chapel at Provena St. Joseph with a rosary service preceding at 9:55 a.m. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery. Please leave a message in Dorothy's guestbook at www.walkermortuary.com
